Gaza After October 7th: Setting The Context – Perspectives From Geopolitics and International Law

Posted on

On Wednesday 6th December, 2024, the Richardson Institute hosted a public lecture to examine and contextualise the events taking place in the Gaza strip. Open to Lancaster University staff and students, the event featured two speakers – Dr Lucia Ardovini and Dr James Summer - who combined their expertise in International Relations and Law to both contextualise the events leading up to October 7th and critically evaluate their implications. The event also featured a one hour long Q&A session where questions of geopolitics, legality, and human rights were discussed with the attendees and informed by lived experiences and perceptions.

Overall, the event was the first of its kind at Lancaster University to take on the discussion of what was at the time, and remains today, a polarising subject that directly affects both our students and staff across campus. The event is also part of a wider set of initiatives focused on the ongoing events in Gaza and on showcasing networks of international solidarity and support.
