Tab Content: About ATLAS

The Advancing Teaching: Lancaster Accreditation Scheme (ATLAS)is an experience-based teaching development programme that enables those with responsibility for teaching and supporting learning at Lancaster to demonstrate how they are engaged with the sector’s Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (PSF 2023).

The programme is accredited by Advance HE, and successful completion leads to professional recognition in the form of Advance HE Fellowship.

ATLAS pathways are semi-structured – designed for staff who have substantial experience of educational practice. Eligibility is therefore for those who have at least three years of relevant professional experience to draw on.

From September 2023, ATLAS pathways are approved against the 2023 update to the PSF. The programme has been refreshed to reflect the revised professional standards. The previous version of ATLAS is no longer available.

Route to Advance HE recognition

If you are teaching and supporting learning on Lancaster University validated provision, at Lancaster University and its International Teaching Partners there are 3 routes to gaining Advance HE recognition, through Advancing Teaching: Lancaster Accreditation Scheme (ATLAS), by undertaking the PG Certificate in Educational Practice (PGCEP) or the Associate Teacher Programme (ATP).

This Routes to Advance HE Recognition Table will help you decide which route you may wish to follow to Advance HE recognition as Fellow.

Tab Content: Workshop and Submission Dates

Because ATLAS is a rolling programme, places are ordinarily allocated to applicants on a first-come, first-served basis. We will try to accommodate individual preferences where capacity permits. Priority will be given to staff for whom completion of an Advance HE accredited educational development is a requirement of their probationary agreement.

Orientation Workshops

All participants are required to attend an orientation workshop. This session is designed to provide insight and clarity about the expectations for the programme, setting you on your journey towards professional recognition. It offers an important space for discussion of the ATLAS scheme requirements, involves activities that will help you begin to surface your existing experience, enable you to gain familiarity with the PSF 2023, and formulate personalised development aims and plans.

The orientation workshop is the only compulsory workshop for the ATLAS programme and you only need to attend one date, but it is essential for ensuring that all colleagues have received consistent information about the PSF 2023 and the processes involved. Applications for joining the Orientation workshop will close 20 working days before the workshop date.
