Fees and funding

Trainees - both employees and students

Trainees are employees of the NHS and have annual leave and other benefits in line with usual NHS entitlements. They are also registered students at the university. We use the term trainees rather than students to recognise this unique relationship. Fees are paid by the NHS directly to the university.

All DClinPsy trainees at Lancaster are employees of the local NHS trust, Lancashire Care Foundation Trust, and have annual leave and other benefits in line with usual NHS entitlements. Applicants do not need to be, or to previously have been employed by the NHS. Applicants are being recruited to both a salaried position within the trust and their place on the programme at Lancaster University.

On entry to the programme all trainees are paid on the first spine point of Band 6 of the Agenda for Change pay scales regardless of any previous NHS service. Travel expenses are paid for travel to placement beyond home to base distance, and university fees are paid directly by the NHS to the university.

Trainees are, at all times and in all contexts, expected to conduct themselves in the manner expected of every other NHS professional and recognise the privileged position of being paid to train.

The programme does not accept candidates on a self-funded basis.
