Heritage Language 2 Consortium (HL2C)

A strategic partnership for the study of Portuguese in multilingual settings

The Heritage Language 2 Consortium (HL2C), is a strategic partnership between the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Camões Institute), and six European universities: Lancaster University in UK, the Universities of Lisbon, Minho, NOVA and Porto in Portugal, and the University of Tübingen in Germany.

The Consortium has two main objectives.

The first objective is to promote research on heritage and second language acquisition and teaching. While our primary focus is on Portuguese as a heritage or second language, we welcome colleagues and students whose research focuses on other languages.

The second objective is to make the results of this research available to the key stakeholders in the language learning process, from pupils, parents and teachers to school administrators and policy makers. For this reason, we regularly organize and participate in outreach events with local communities.

Please visit About us for more detailed information.

Working groups

The Consortium has three working groups which bring together, on a regular basis, researchers from the partner institutions. The working groups serve to discuss ongoing work and to develop future collaborative projects in an informal and friendly setting.

To join a working group, please email the respective coordinators.
