Regional Heritage in Schools

The Local History for Schools Website

The Regional Centre is working to assist a number of secondary schools in the North West to meet the National Curriculum requirement around local history projects, through the creation of an online resource bank which includes range of primary sources and commentary, as well as links to relevant materials available from the websites of archives and museums, audio and video material on the BBC website and similar resources.

The range of topics currently includes transport, the slave trade and abolitionism, the Jacobite rising and the First World War.

Please visit the Local History for Schools website, which is still being developed.

The Regional History in Schools Award

The Regional History in Schools award is designed to recognise innovative work by teachers in north west England in the fields of local and regional history. The award is open to primary and secondary schools. We have piloted the first award in 2020/21 and we will shortly upload information about the 2022/23 round, along with an application form.
