Help Centre accessibility statement

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed in the 'What isn't accessible' section below.

What is accessible

We have attempted to make the Help Centre as accessible as possible, but know there are issues completing requests or reporting problems using the forms if you are using a screen reader or navigating solely using a keyboard.

Within the Help Centre you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate to use search, and search for help using just a keyboard
  • navigate to use search, and search for help using speech recognition software
  • listen to instructions to aid navigation using a screen reader

We also try to make the content as simple as possible to understand.

What isn't accessible

Navigating to view your requests

  • Navigating to the ‘MyRequests’ area of the Help Centre does not currently work without the use of a mouse or tracker-pad, and is not picked up by screen readers.
  • To view the status of your current requests, you can navigate directly by going to MyRequests.
  • You can also access your request history within ‘My Area’ in the staff intranet and student portal.

Using request forms

  • Some screen readers currently miss some of the instructional text which give further details about the purpose of the form. Generally this should be clear from the title of the form itself.
  • A few of the forms present you with drop-down options to select, and some screen readers may not be able to access and read out the options on these drop-down boxes.

Plans for improvement

We are attempting to address the issues we have identified with the aim of making the online Help Centre accessible to all.

If you have contacted us about an accessibility problem (e.g. because you needed information in a different format, or you think the requirements of the accessibility regulations aren't being met) but you feel that this has not been dealt with satisfactorily we want to know.

The first stage would be to raise your concern informally. The aim of this stage is to achieve a quick and easy solution for you. It would be appropriate to take the concern through the relevant contact listed above for reporting an accessibility problem.

But if we do not deal with your concern satisfactorily you can take it through to a formal complaint. See our Concerns, complaints and enforcement information.
