Lancaster University’s Spin Out Company portfolio comprises an array of spin-out ventures, each born from the innovative spirit of our researchers. These companies demonstrate the power of collaboration, translating academic excellence into cutting-edge products, services, and solutions that push the boundaries of industries.

  • Lina Energy Ltd

LiNa Energy was created as a spin-out of Lancaster University, where founders Dr Gene Lewis and Dr Richard Dawson combined their world-leading expertise and successes in ceramics and electrochemistry. They are a technology-driven business, led by a team with commercial, product development and energy sector experience. LiNa Energy is helping the energy sector accelerate the transition to Net Zero, through our safer and more sustainable alternative to lithium ion.

  • Mindgard

Mindgard is a UK-based deep tech spin-out from Lancaster University, with their team comprising world-leading scientists and engineers in cyber security and AI systems with a wealth of experience working with global tech and defense giants, driving industry policy making, and have formed multiple tech companies from the ground up.

  • Fabrikator

A novel collaborative tool for exploring and designing project evaluations. EViD is the outcome of a research collaboration between academics seeking to design a virtual, visualsed, user-friendly tool aimed at revolutionising the project evaluation process.

  • Plasma4

Plasma4 uniquely combines novel materials and cold atmospheric plasma for on-demand and targeted delivery of drugs for a range of skin conditions, including infections, inflammatory and autoimmune disease and cancers. The Plasma4 research programme is a collaborative international effort, drawing expertise from scientists across universities and industries, including Lancaster University. Their patented technology is based on more than 50 years of world-class plasma & materials expertise.

  • Quantum Base Ltd

Quantum Base Ltd’s patented product range is driven from thier development of the world’s first nanoscale quantum physically unclonable functions (PUF’s), both Optical (OPUF) and Electronic (EPUF) versions, and their simple quantum random number generator (Q-RAND). They have a further six products in patent pending, founded on their scientific research in quantum physics.

  • Lancaster Helum

Lancaster Helium Ltd is a spin-out company of Lancaster University. It supplies the isotopically pure He-4 gas needed for a diversity of applications including: Coolant gas in a nuclear reactor The down-scattering medium for ultra-cold neutron (UCN) production Measurement of the Landau critical velocity Experiments on quantum turbulence Cyclotron resonance of ions below the superfluid surface Production of excited helium molecules (long-lived excimers) Ultra-low-temperature experiments on solid He-4 The gas has many other possible uses.
