The Additive Manufacturing Centre

The Additive Manufacturing Centre (AMIC) is a strategic partnership between Lancaster University and TWI, and is the second Innovation Centre to be established by the two parties. It was launched in 2019 and its mission is to become a world class centre specialising in AM technologies.

The Centre aims to grow a portfolio of activities, including innovation projects and PhD studies, that encompass testing and inspection methodologies for application by industries, ranging from aerospace, automotive and consumer goods sectors through to spare parts, small series production, tooling and medical implants.

AMIC undertakes research on additive manufacturing (AM) spanning the complete value chain, from design and build optimisation, prototyping and performance validation through to product industrialisation. The work will also contribute to developing the international profile and reputation of both partners.

Objectives

  • Develop new technologies that combine additive manufacturing with artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Research into new material approaches and processing

Core research areas

  • Additive manufacturing (AM) with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning
  • New materials and processing for AM
