A warm County welcome to our new and returning students

On-campus students

The new academic year is fast approaching and our main Arrivals Day for County is Saturday 30 September from 9am onwards. A team of Welcome Reps (wearing dark blue t-shirts) will be available when you arrive to assist you in finding your key collection point and your accommodation and answer any questions you might have. When you arrive on campus, you will be directed to your key collection point. Please note that you may have to queue for a short while to collect your keys. If you do, please bear with us, we have hundreds of students moving in on the same day but we aim to make the experience as enjoyable and exciting as possible!

Travel for road users - We're aware there is potential for some disruption for road users on a small section of the M6 near the University during Arrivals Weekend and Welcome Week. Repair work between junctions 32 and 33 means only two northbound lanes will be open during the day, and one overnight. To help you plan your journey and minimise any issues you may face, we've added a new section to our Welcome Site that offers travel information, as well as links to the latest updates and more details. Please regularly check the page for new information before you begin your journey.

Off-campus / commuter students

If you're joining us this October as a first year undergraduate student and are set to commute to University rather than live on campus, then you're invited to our Commuter Student Welcome event from 10.30am-2pm on Wednesday 27 September 2023. It will include a campus tour, introduction to your college and a chance to meet other new students.

We understand that starting university as a commuter student can be daunting, this welcome event is intended to provide an overview and an opportunity to familiarise yourself with your college, explore campus before Welcome Week and meet other students in the same position who you can share your university journey with. Students from all eight of the undergraduate colleges are invited to attend.

County Welcome Talk and Dinner – Saturday 30 September

This is the day when all students living on campus will be arriving and we would love for you to attend our ‘Welcome Talk’ in the Great Hall at 4.30pm. Here you will be introduced to college staff and student teams and be given some key information about Welcome Week and your time in the college. This short talk will then be followed by a FREE Lasagne Dinner.

Complete Your Online Induction Training

We strongly recommend you complete the online induction courses before you arrive. They cover topics we think you’ll find useful such as making friends, settling in and study tips, with our own students sharing their advice. Essential information on important topics such as consent, and equality, diversity and inclusion are included too, alongside digital wellbeing and information security.

Countdown to Arrival and Welcome Week Timetable

If you haven’t already done so, it is also absolutely essential that you read through the University’s Welcome Guide so that you know what to do pre-arrival, what to bring and what to expect. This is also where you will find the Welcome Programme Timetable which includes all the events and activities that have been planned for you (don’t forget to set your profile filter to The County College!). Our JCR Exec (student representatives) have also been busy uploading events information to our Instagram - @countycollege.

County Fest! – Monday 2 October

There are hundreds of activities planned throughout Welcome Week but I just wanted to draw your attention to ‘County Fest’ which will take place on the Monday between 12-3pm. This is our official ‘warm welcome’ to your college and will include live music, street food vans, free drinks and doughnuts, games and lots more! If you’re interested in joining the County Football or Netball Clubs then meet us in County South Quad at 12pm and you’ll be escorted down to the pitches to ‘have a go’ and meet the Captains.

Membership Fee
