When you register with the Disability and Inclusive Practice Service, we will ask you to provide appropriate evidence of your condition. We will use your evidence along with any further information we have gathered from you to produce an Inclusive Learning and Support Plan (ILSP).

The ILSP will highlight the characteristics of your condition, how these may impact your academic studies and will make recommendations about reasonable adjustments that should put in place to support your studies.

We will ask you to view and approve your ILSP on your Student Portal before we share it with the relevant Lancaster University staff.

We recommend that all disabled students have an ILSP, and you can ask us to review or update your ILSP if your circumstances change or your adjustments are not enabling you to study effectively. It is your responsibility to inform the Lancaster University Disability and Inclusive Practice Service if an update or review of an ILSP is required.

Once you have declared your disability and Registered with the Disability and Inclusive Practice Service this information will be reviewed and will help to inform the creation of your ILSP. In reviewing the information you have provided, we may invite you to undertake a Support Review (SR). You will be invited to have an SR if we think that further information would be helpful in determining what adjustments and support you need for your studies. The purpose of an SR is to have a more in-depth discussion about your specific requirements to determine the adjustments needed to support you with your studies.

If we do not invite you to have an SR but you feel you would benefit from one, you can request to have one. Please contact the Disability and Inclusive Practice Service to request an SR.

Following your SR you will receive a communication, which will outline the considerations explored during your review. If you already have an ILSP before you undertake your SR, your ILSP will be reviewed and updated if relevant.

Your ILSP is always is your definitive record of the support and adjustments you will receive at Lancaster. You can access your ILSP via the Student Portal.

DSA funding is not available to students on Apprenticeships. Funding for Apprenticeship programmes is the responsibility of the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).

Although apprenticeship students are not eligible for DSA, the University have a responsibility to ensure appropriate reasonable adjustments are in place to support your teaching and learning. Where this is the case, you will referred for a Support Review (SR), which will identify any reasonable adjustments that may be required. Access to Work is a government programme aimed at supporting disabled people to take up or remain in work. Access to Work can provide practical and financial support if you have a disability or long term physical or mental health condition.

Lancaster University Student Mental Health Service provide short-term support to students. The service aims to help students manage any problems or issues so they can continue with their studies.
