As well as providing a welcome break from work, playing for the Law Society’s football and netball teams provides members with an excellent opportunity to meet legal professionals.

The society plays in sports tournaments against representatives from many of the leading law firms. Through these events players are able to meet and speak with solicitors, who have made it through university, vacation schemes and training contracts, in an informal and friendly environment.

After an event, competitors often head to a bar or a restaurant, for a post-match chat, and a chance to network in a more relaxed atmosphere with lawyers from some of the biggest firms in the country. We have felt the benefit of this too. Students from The Law Society football and netball teams were given a tour of the Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer office on Fleet Street last year, which was a great way to see how the firm operated. Although nothing has been confirmed to date, we are expecting to expand the competition in the coming year, with DWF one firm which already appears to be interested.
